	Thursday 13 May from 9pm WILL MCNICOL Born in Scotland twenty years ago and now living in the South of England, Will McNicol began his classical guitar training at the age of seven and currently holds two diplomas in classical guitar recital with Trinity College London. He started composing five years ago and has since developed a unique style of his own, combining acoustic tapping and slapping techniques with the more conventional classical approach. He has performed spell-binding sets supporting a variety of artists from the folk legend Martin Simpson to the indie stylings of Kid Harpoon. 	Friday 14 May from 9pm FANA Fana is the collaboration between Iwan Kushka and Asha McCarthy. Formed in 2009, it features the meeting of the Zimbabwean Thumb-Piano (mbira) and the Cello. This unique blend is the band’s signature sound, but other instruments used include guitar, oud (Arabic lute), Kora (African Harp-lute), ukelele, Indian harmonium, and world percussion. Into these varied textures, Fana weave poetry, story and song. Original material is interspersed with arrangements of traditional songs from around the world. Still in their teens, twin sisters Charlotte and Laura Carrivick have grown up playing and writing music together. Their unique style shows their strong bluegrass influences without obscuring their English roots. With tight harmonies that only siblings can achieve, they perform their original songs on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and clawhammer banjo. They have performed both in the UK and internationally.

Thursday 15 April from 9pm JAMES WALBANK

James Walbank plays blues, soul and rhymn influenced by great purveyors of hesitation such as John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal and Henri Matisse. He started off on the banks of the river Dart, listening to Otis Redding and The Specials. He started writing songs as a teenager, hoping one day to grow into Elvis Costello. He already had the NHS glasses.

In the years that lay ahead, Walbank migrated to Oakland, California, where he was hit like a cannonball by seeing Hooker and Santana playing their first gig together at the Omni. This proved that less was sometimes more of a whole shoal of fish waiting to be hitched and fried on the campfire.
He worked on his blues growl.

Turning his head on dangerous furniture delivery in Oakland, Walbank headed for art college, settling into deep thought and his first band, The Screaming Jays. Time passed and he moved on; Canada then Bristol and finally back to the fertile red earth of the land of high hedges and slow consideration. Walbank continues to spew songs forth like machine-gunned tadpoles and plays select concertos for fisherfolk. He wishes to remain unanimous.

Mike Isaac's solo electric bass concerts range from the subltle nuances of the 6 string bass, the funky tones of his Fender Jazz and some fretless lyricism.
Expect interesting and original arrangements for the bass of music by Sting, Paul McCartney, Gershwin, Jobim, Jaco Pastorius and J S Bach among others.
All performed though Mikes' exclusive stereo bass sound system powered by Euphonic Audio and some choice effects units.
No loops, no backing tracks, no tapping, no gimmicks.

JEAN BINTA BREEZE

Jean 'Binta' Breeze was born in Jamaica in 1957. She studied at the Jamaican School of Drama with Michael Smith and Oku Onuora. A 'dub' poet, she began to write poetry in the 1970s, performing and recording first in Kingston then in London. She has worked as a director and scriptwriter for theatre, television and film and is joint-editor of Critical Quarterly in London where she works as a lecturer and performance poet. She has performed her work throughout the world, touring in the Caribbean, North America, Europe, South East Asia and Africa.

ROB AUTON

I was born in York Now I live in Walthamstow I want to put things in people's heads that are not already there. I like cooking and have a lot of respect for Jamie Oliver's timings. I like painting and have a lot of respect for Francis Bacons empty paint tubes I can see why John went for Yoko.

POETICAT (and her band)

Catherine Martindale has performed spoken word poetry for 4 years, receiving high acclaim for her honest, thought-provoking, and comic take on urban life in West London. This success is underpinned by a 5-star rating at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival which led to a growing and dedicated fan-base. Catherine was well received as a solo performer at Camp Bestival and Lattitude. One year she started playing with guitarist Blake Kenrick and they found something quite nice. Then Isabel and Victor Meadowcroft popped up and added vocals and cajon and PoetiCat was born. With PoetiCat, Catherine's urban tales are captivatingly re-worked and underscored by a rich acoustic sound. This fusion - nick-named 'Folk n' Word' - brings together an original combination of spoken word, experimental vocals (inspired by Portuguese Fado), funky folk-blues guitar with a Latin twist, and the earthy pulse of the cajon (Peruvian drum). This year, PoetiCat was enthusiastically received at E4 Udderbelly (SouthBank) and performed to a full-house at the Tavistock room at the OneTaste Festival (The Bedford). Most recently, PoetiCat surprised and delighted the crowd with its refreshingly different act at The Bull & Gate (Kentish Town). PoetiCat's unique sound/word fusion appeals to both poetry and music crowds and suits a range of environments.

KAYO CHINGONYI

Kayo Chingonyi is a poet, performer and creative facilitator based in London. He has performed his work at Shakespeare's Globe, Tate Modern, Soho Theatre, The Southbank Centre and Buckingham Palace as well as countless live venues across the country. His work has been broadcast on Radio Five Live, Sheffield Live and Colourful Radio.

Friday 15 January KAIROS 4TET

Having recently recorded his debut album Kairos Moment with this band Kairos 4Tet, saxophonist and composer Adam Waldmann is forging a personal voice for himself amongst some of the UK's most promising, up'n'coming talent. A graduate of Trinity College of Music in 2006, he received the award for outstanding student from the jazz faculty there. He has studied under Julian Arguelles and performed with Polar Bear, Shlomo, Clark Tracey, Gwilym Simcock, Jim Hart, Annie Whitehead and various members of the F-ire and Loop Collectives. His main influences include Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Dave Holland, Julian Arguelles, Stevie Wonder, Keith Jarrett and Avishai Cohen.

Recognised for his energetic live performances, Richard has written and recorded a new 12 track album: "My Little Black Book". The music draws on influences landing between The Beatles (especially Lennon), Dylan, Bowie, and early Waterboys. He'll be performing tunes from his new album on the night, as well as a selection of well-interpreted covers from rock history.

Friday 11 December MARTIN HARLEY

Singer-songwriter and phenomenal lap-slide guitarist Martin Harley returns to the Barbican to perform his brand of husky-voiced, whisky-soaked blues. He was last seen with his band at the Barbican International Jazz & Blues Festival 2009 - where he played with his band to a sell-out audience. He'll be flying solo in this intimate gig in the B-bar.

Friday 27 November PETE OXLEY AND LUIS D'AGOSTINO
This Anglo-Argentinean teaming has developed over the past five years from what was initially a ‘jazz guitar duo’ to the recording and concert performing project that it is today. They have gradually steered their repertoire away from the jazz standards thing to a more varied programme, aimed at wowing and wooing a very broad listenership.

D’Agostino & Oxley have performed in concert halls, theatres, festivals, village halls and jazz clubs all over the UK and Europe. The idea behind their gigs is this: to perform a scintillating and engaging array of pieces that will appeal to anybody interested (even if only mildly!) in the guitar. Their repertoire ranges from tangos - traditional and modern - to works by the likes of Chick Corea, Egberto Gismonti, Joni Mitchell and Norah Jones. Admission £6
